Back in the studio at Sunshine Recorder

This Friday is another exciting day for Revival Nona and the Northtone Family as we go into the studio to record the next single. We will be tracking and recording the single, as well as filming a music video at the stunning Sunshine Recorder Studios in Port Melbourne.

Sunshine Recorder Studios is a world class recording facility, the complex comprises of two creative spaces covering song-writing through to post production. The studio centrepiece is a vintage Calrec UA8000 British recording console, and is considered one of the finest ever built.

We chose Sunshine Recorder Studios because we wanted a studio that would create a warm and vintage sound. Sunshine recorder is the perfect recording space, allowing us to track the new single live with the whole Revival Nona band (Mata Isaia, Frank Johnson, Tyson Constantinou, Kevin Kim & Revival Nona)

We are looking forward to working with Lee Cardan, the owner and studio engineer at Sunshine Recorder Studios, as well as Daniel Marolla from DM Creative Media who will be capturing it all on film. Robert John Sedky and Jimi Lundy will be working together to produce the track and Marcel Yammouni will be mixing it for us.

Get swept up

Our second act of the night at our launch event this Sunday (12th of July) is Melbourne progressive soul quintet Sweeps.

Formed in Melbourne, Australia in 2014, the band defines their approach as a reflection and response to their love of Neo Soul and Jazz from a modern era. Distinctly inspired by the resurging popularity in the neo soul movement, the members of the band were initially brought together to create a nondescript project inspired by their love of groove music and ‘behind the beat’ rhythms.

Sweeps quickly found themselves passionately composing during late night sessions influenced by artists such as Erykah Badu, Snarky Puppy, Jill Scott, Robert Glasper and Chris Dave. After a time of experimentation and consistent repurposing of compositions and arrangements, the group agreed that their goal was to experiment with establishing unique and complex instrumental sections that would compliment the rich tone and melodies of vocalist Jessica Wilson.

With word of an EP on the way, excitement is brewing about this fresh and funky quintet. We feel honoured that they will be joining our show at The Evelyn so be sure to catch their set at around 8:30pm and get swept up in their infectious groove.

As we are approaching the debut release of Revival Nona’s single Beautiful Art, we would like to share with you the people behind the scenes.

The single, Beautiful Art will be available on iTunes, Google Play and Soundcloud one day before the show (Saturday 11th of July). This way you can purchase yourself a copy and sing along on the night.

The song is all about those moments in life when sometimes the smallest things can absolutely take your breath away. Before we release the song, we would like to say a huge thank you to some very special and talented people who made a small idea into something truly beautiful.

Opening Act Announced

The launch at The Evelyn hotel is drawing closer and we are now happy to announce our opening act.

Jacinta Caruana will be opening the show with a stripped back three piece performance starting at 8PM when doors open.

After building a reputation as a dedicated and versatile vocalist within the Melbourne Music Industry, regularly working with musicians linked to Vanessa Amarossi, Jessica Mauboy, Daniel Merriweather, Jade Macrae, Anthony Callea (the list goes on), it has been a goal of hers to create a solo EP of music inspired by the artists she grew up with, such as Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson and Alicia Keys. Teaming up with Grammy award nominee and producer Phil Turcio, Jacinta and Phil have seen this goal come to life through beautiful melody and infectious beats. Lyrically inspired by her growth as an individual and a musician, you’ll hear her own personal stories unravel through her music.

Early in 2012, Jacinta toured The Netherlands and Germany for 2 months as a back-up vocalist to fellow Melbourne singer/songwriter Jaimi Faulkner. Before returning home to Australia, she made a stop over in her second home, Malta, where she appeared on Malta Llejla with Stehanie Spiteri as well as radios’s ‘Rockna’ with Michael Bugeja promoting her debut EP.

We are very proud to have Jacinta Caruana join us for such a special night, tickets for the launch event are on sale now via The Evelyn Hotel.

We are launching!

The launch is only 2 weeks away and we are all starting to get very excited. In the next couple of days we will be launching our website and announcing the opening act for the big launch event at the Evelyn.

Northtone Records is a new Melbourne based record label focused on Pop, Indie-folk, Soul and RnB genres. The name derives from our humble beginnings in the Northern suburbs of Melbourne, founded by a love for creating beautiful music and run in a close-knit family-esque nature.

The launch event is taking place at The Evelyn Hotel, Brunswick St Fitzroy on Sunday July 12th. Doors will open at 8pm with four acts set for the stage including Northtone Record’s signed artist Revival Nona, who will be showcasing her debut single Beautiful Art. Revival Nona will be performing with her full band featuring two drummers; Mata Isaia and Kevin Kim, keys; Frank Johnson & bass player, Tyson Constantinou.

The show has an impressive line up of supporting acts with Melbourne’s emerging artists Sweeps, a jazz /lounge 5 piece who describe themselves as “a badass band from Melbourne, entertaining your ears, eyes and daughters” and Sean Marchetti, a singer/songwriter who expresses his music as “salvation”. It was through necessity he developed the characteristic soul/blues/pop hybrid style that now defines his sound. We will also be announcing the opening act in the coming days, so watch out for that.

Melbourne is one of the best cities in Australia for great live entertainment and this is the perfect show to demonstrate what emerging talent is all about.

Northtone Records looks forward to bringing to Melbourne and Australia beautiful music and events to inspire and enjoy.
